The Hopkins Center Highlights Strong Women of the Screen

Also featured are lesser-known films of recent vintage, including Beyond the Lights and the documentary She's Beautiful When She's Angry, about the origins of the modern women's movement. Some classic films fit the series' theme, too, including The Lion in Winter (starring the famously independent Katherine Hepburn), 1950's All About Eve and, perhaps most intriguingly, Carl-Theodor Dreyer's monumental 1928 masterpiece, The Passion of Joan of Arc. The chance to see this great film on a large screen is always a noteworthy event.

What I'm Watching: Ned Kelly (1970)

This shot is taken from the optical point of view of the half-dead Ned as he is dragged through the streets of the town. Like the close-up shot of the first flashforward, this shot was taken with a wide-angle lens: Note the parenthesis-like figures on either side of the image.

1) Cold Hollow Sculpture Park. The state's largest sculpture park, located on artist David Stromeyer's sprawling, 200-acre property in Enosburg Falls, opened to the public in the summer. (A Seven Days posse including writer Kevin J. Kelley got a sneak peek in early June.) Cold Hollow features 55 of Stromeyer's massive, abstract metal sculptures, and well maintained walking paths between them.
