Chard deNiord Appointed Next Vermont Poet Laureate

A cofounder of the New England College MFA program in poetry, deNiord is the author of the poetry collections Asleep in the Fire (1990), Sharp Golden Thorn (2003), Night Mowing (2005), and The Double Truth (2011). His book, Sad Friends, Drowned Lovers, Stapled Songs (2011) is a collection of interviews with various American poets, including Robert Bly, Lucille Clifton, Jack Gilbert, Donald Hall, Galway Kinnell, Maxine Kumin and Ruth Stone.

All of which would be instantly understandable, but those terribly puppeteered puppets really put this video over the edge of sloppiness. So arbitrary and non-choreographed are the movements of these floppy, surely unlicensed dolls that they imbue the whole video with a “we don’t give a shit” spirit.

1950s exploitation films were also known for their casting of actors who had once been bigger stars, but whose careers were currently declining. In this way, this type of film filled (and fills) the same role that television did (and does) for actors’ careers: It was a good launching pad as well as a nice place to land when you came back down.
