My friend Eric and I went to see David Lynch's Dune at a local movie theater when it first came out in 1984. It was a particularly memorable occasion for two reasons.

As the Crow Flies, Melanie Gillman's online comic about a queer 13-year-old girl stuck at an all-white Christian youth backpacking camp, is one of just 10 webcomics to be nominated for the Cartoonist Studio Prize. The $1000 prize is awarded by Slate Book Review and White River Junction's Center for Cartoon Studies.

No New Lease for Winooski Circle Arts — Yet

Last December we reported in Seven Days that Liza Cowan and Jodi Harrington had launched Winooski Circle Arts, featuring artworks and gift items by local artists, at a sunny venue on the Winooski traffic circle. In January, Cowan told us the landlord was not renewing their lease and they would be closing up the shop on January 15.
